Resident campers take advantage of every aspect of summer fun at OVS. Boys and girls live in separate well-equipped dormitory facilities on campus. Girls live in Reed Hall, a single-story dorm in the center of campus, which is divided into areas for younger and older girls. Boys live on the second story of Frost Hall, with multiple common rooms for different age groups. Typically, there are two or three campers per room. Campers sleep in bunk beds and have their own drawers and closet space. Camp counselors live in separate rooms in the same hallway and supervise and attend to the needs of campers throughout the morning and evening. Counselors help with wake up and prepping for the day, as well as setting meal, bedtime, shower and laundry routines. Learning to live and work happily with others is a high priority at OVS and campers thrive on the responsibility and routine of a summer camp day! As a private college-prep boarding school, OVS provides the exemplary experience, supervision, and facilities to accommodate our resident campers.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner and two daily snacks are provided and prepared on campus by our professional kitchen staff. Meals include a complete salad bar with fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade soups, fresh-baked desserts, and options for vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Barbecues are held throughout the summer under our shady outdoor pergola. Campers love the food at camp and enjoy the friendly atmosphere of eating and sharing with friends and camp counselors. Counselors monitor and guide the use of proper manners and make sure campers are eating well.
Once afternoon activities have ended, resident campers meet with dorm counselors to recap their day and get ready for a fun evening. Special evening activities happen each night and include treasure hunts, dances, water carnivals, off campus trips to local parks and more. There’s also time to relax, bond with buddies, make a friendship bracelet (or two), giggle and gab with your counselor and enjoy our beautiful Southern California evenings.
Weekend activities are planned by camp counselors and are always the hit of the summer! Morning Madness happens each Saturday after breakfast and allows campers to choose from a unique mix of interesting activities and games. Lemonade & Painting, Pool Aerobics, Kindness Rocks, Soccer Shoot-outs and Hammock Hangout are all part of Saturday Morning Madness fun. Campers travel by OVS bus each Saturday afternoon on a field trip to a local beach, park or attraction. We end our busy Saturday with an all camp movie night.
On Sundays, campers typically walk with camp counselors and teachers to visit downtown Ojai. It’s just a short walk, about one mile, from campus to the Farmers Market, old fashioned ice cream shop, Libbey Park and more. Campers may check out money from the camp store, to buy small souvenirs and treats in town.
What to pack
OVS provides bedding for resident campers, however many families opt to bring their own. Campers need to bring appropriate summer clothes and gear as detailed in the Summer Camp Handbook. The handbook also provides information about cell phones, technology, laundry and general camp rules.
OVS will offer transportation from LAX (Los Angeles International Airport) to resident campers for the start and end of each camp session. If you would like your camper to ride on the OVS LAX bus, please complete and return the transportation request form. Click Here for details.
