Overview
Elementary and middle school students can pursue their passion for the performing arts during two specialty summer camp sessions that focus on dramatic techniques, singing, and the production of a musical show.
- Session One: June 24 to July 12. This session is only open to campers in grades 3-5.
- Session Two: July 15 to August 2. This session is only open to campers in grades 6-8.
Performing Arts campers will meet each morning, Monday-Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. for their morning program. This will include warm-up games and then transition to a focus on techniques, including movement, characterization, music and singing, and skills pertinent to staging a production, like learning lines, preparing for auditions and engaging the audience. Campers will have time each morning devoted to preparation for individual performances as well as improvisation and games as teams and individually.
Campers enjoy lunch together and then participate in afternoon sessions that will center on to the actual production for the end-of-session show. This will involve song and dance as well as acting. There will also be time set aside for campers to spend time outside and engage in activities such as swimming or archery.
At the end of the day, there will be a group discussion of all that has been worked on during the day, and all that needs to be done regarding the show.
We have great facilities at OVS, including a spacious auditorium, sound and lights, costumes, props and scenery, which will all be utilized in creating the production at the end of each three-week session. The productions are only one part of the camp experience with the main emphasis being on developing skills.
